Decentralized Data Unleashed

What is Nostr?

Nostr (Notes and Other Stuff Transmitted by Relays) is a simple, open protocol that enables a truly censorship-resistant and global social network.

Unlike traditional social media platforms that are controlled by a single company, Nostr is a decentralized protocol where:

How Nostr Works

1. Clients

Apps that let users read and write to the Nostr network

2. Relays

Servers that store and transmit events between clients

3. Public Keys

Your identity on the network, independent of any platform

When you create a Nostr account, you generate a key pair (public and private keys). Your public key is your identity, while your private key (or "nsec") signs your messages cryptographically, proving they came from you.

Messages on Nostr are called "events" and have different "kinds" - from simple text notes (kind 1) to profile metadata (kind 0) to zaps (Lightning Network payments, kind 9735).

Benefits of Nostr

Censorship Resistance

No single entity can silence you or remove your content across all relays.

User Control

You own your identity and can move between clients freely with your key pair.

Innovation Freedom

Developers can build new clients and services without permission.

Global Access

Anyone with internet access can join the network without restrictions.

Getting Started with Nostr

  1. Choose a Nostr Client

    Popular options include:

  2. Generate a Key Pair

When you sign up, the client will generate a public key (your identity) and a private key (to sign messages). Keep your private key secure!

  3. Connect to Relays

Most clients come pre-configured with popular relays, but you can add more for better connectivity.

    Some popular relays include:

    • wss://relay.damus.io
    • wss://nos.lol
    • wss://relay.nostr.band
  4. Create Your Profile

Add a name, picture, and brief description to help others find and recognize you.

  5. Start Posting and Connecting

Send notes, follow interesting accounts, and join the conversation!
